Caps 026 :: Two for the Road
I first watched Two for the Road a year or so ago and totally fell in love with it. It is by far the most underrated Audrey Hepburn movie, though it's full of outstanding stars besides Audrey. Albert Finney is excellent (and very hot) as her husband. I had only seen Eleanor Bron in Help! but she was excellent in this, as was the beautiful Jacqueline Bisset.
The very sixties feel and wardrobes turn some people off, and the scrambled, flashback-heavy chronology drives a lot of people--such as my mom--crazy, but I think both of those are part of the charm. The outrageous late 60s clothes are great, and the unusual sequence keeps you interested.
Overall, though, the main reason I love it is because I'm a hopeless romantic, and it is, after all, a love story. It's one of the better films about love and marriage, I think, because it very definitely isn't all hearts and flowers and fairy tales. It's a very real and very human love story, with lots of bickering and some genuine heartache, but also a lot of fun and humor.
So, anyway...these include DVD menus and the still gallery on the DVD, which I admit I capped entirely for this adorable pic of Albert Finney.
